# Connect your account and upload a resume

> Link the extension to your Matchr account and give it a resume to score against

## Create an account

If you don't have one yet, [sign up at matchr.in](https://matchr.in/sign-up) with email/password or Google. New accounts start with 15 free credits, enough to run several job analyses and still try the resume optimizer once.

## Get an API key

The extension connects to your account with an API key, not your email and password.

    Sign in at [matchr.in](https://matchr.in) and go to **API keys** in the sidebar.

    Click **Create key**. Copy it immediately, it's only shown once.

    Open the Matchr side panel on any LinkedIn job posting, paste the key into the connect field, and click **Connect**.

## Upload your resume

Once connected, the panel asks for a resume if you haven't uploaded one yet.

* Supported formats: **PDF** and **DOCX**, up to 10MB.
* Matchr reads the file, extracts the text, and scores its formatting and content quality alongside every job match, so you'll see both a match score and a sense of how ATS-friendly the resume itself is.
* You can upload more than one resume over time and switch which one is active without re-uploading, see [Switching between resumes](/using-matchr/switching-resumes).

<Tip>
  If your resume uses a complex, multi-column, or heavily designed layout, Matchr reads it visually (page by page) rather than as a raw text dump, so the extracted text keeps the right reading order instead of scrambling side-by-side sections together.

Once a resume is uploaded, you're ready to see it in action, open any LinkedIn job posting and the panel will show your match score automatically.
