# Walking through a session

> What actually happens from opening the optimizer to downloading a finished resume

  <Step title="Open it from a match">
    Click **Optimize My Resume** in the side panel's result view. A popup opens showing your resume as editable text next to a chat panel.

  <Step title="Say yes">
    Click **Yes, optimize it**. Matchr reviews your entire resume against the job description, not just the gaps it already flagged, and looks for real, defensible ways to reframe existing content to speak more directly to that job.

  <Step title="Watch it work">
    Proposed changes appear inline: the original line struck through, the new wording written right after it in green, with a short note explaining why. This happens as it's actually generated, not a staged animation.

  <Step title="Answer anything it asks">
    If a stronger edit would need a fact it can't verify from your resume (a specific metric, a tool you used, who owned a budget), it asks instead of guessing. Answer in the chat and it revises that line.

  <Step title="Ask it to look again, if you want">
    You can keep the conversation going, ask for another pass, question a suggestion, or push back. If you ask for something it can't honestly support, it'll say so rather than inventing it.

  <Step title="Check your new score">
    Click **I'm happy with these changes, check my new score**. Matchr re-runs the real scoring pipeline against your edited resume and shows the before-and-after.

  <Step title="Finalize">
    Click **Finalize resume**. This is the point where 5 credits are spent. Matchr generates a clean, formatted PDF from your edited text.

  <Step title="Download or save">
    You get three options: download the PDF, download a plain-text version to copy lines from, or save it to your Matchr dashboard as one of your resumes (it won't automatically become your active resume, you choose that from the [resume switcher](/using-matchr/switching-resumes) when you're ready).
