# How credits work

> What spends a credit, and what doesn't

Credits are Matchr's single currency across the extension and the resume optimizer.

| Action                                                                                  | Cost      |
| --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------- |
| Scoring a job posting you haven't scored before (with your current resume) | 1 credit |
| Revisiting a job you've already scored                                                  | Free      |
| Switching which resume is active, then re-scoring a job                                 | 1 credit  |
| Uploading or switching resumes | Free |
| Finalizing a resume in the [resume optimizer](/optimizer/overview)                      | 5 credits |
| Working through suggestions and checking your score in the optimizer, before finalizing | Free |

<Note>
  Matchr caches a match per resume-and-job pair. Reopening the same job with the same active resume never charges you again, credits are only spent the first time that specific pairing is scored.
</Note>

## Running low

Once your balance hits 2 or fewer credits (on a paid plan), the side panel shows a reminder with a link to top up. If you run out entirely, scoring a new job or finalizing an optimized resume will ask you to add credits first, work you've already done isn't affected.

## Checking your balance

Your credit balance is always visible in the side panel header, and in more detail under **Payments** in the [dashboard](https://matchr.in/dashboard/payments).
